 Pidgin (formerly known as Gaim) is a multi-protocol instant messaging
client for BSD and Windows. It is compatible with AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and
Zephyr networks. Pidgin users can log in to multiple accounts on
multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be
chatting with friends on AOL Instant Messenger, talking to a friend on
Yahoo Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time. It
also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular
features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send
a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes
away, signs online, or returns from idle. download
Google Talk
 Google Talk offers you a choice to get in touch over email, IM, or a
call; a quality talk through your computer but hear your friends as if
they were in the same room; and convenience of your Gmail contacts
which are pre-loaded into Google Talk so inviting or talking to your
friends is just a click away. Google Talk is a very clean, simple way to chat with friends and
family. Using your google account, you can chat with any other gmail
user. The interface is clean, and uncluttered. It comes with a few
different appearance options, although I don't see any option for 3rd
party enhancements. download

 Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client for Windows.
Miranda IM uses very little memory and is extremely fast. It is
designed to be resource efficient and easy to use. Miranda IM uses very
little memory and requires no installation. Just unzip and run! This
also makes it ideal for users that want to run their messenger client
from a removable storage such as an USB memory stick. Miranda IM can
even be stored on a single floppy disc if not too many plugins are
used. Its powerful plugin system makes Miranda IM very flexible. Only
the most basic features are built in, but there are currently more than
350 free plugins available for download that allows users to extend the
functionality of Miranda IM. download

features. Still commonly referred to by the previous name of MSN Messenger (MSN
for short), is an instant messaging client for all Windows versions. download
 AOL continues its push to stay relevant with the latest upgrade to
its chat program. This time around we get
Twitter support, two built-in plug-ins, expanded mobile messaging, an
easier way to switch skins, and a new Status message feature. The two plug-ins are the biggest upgrades, with mixed results.
Neither the QQ Games nor the AIM Tunes plug-ins worked in Vista,
although they were fine on an XP machine. They both allow full control
from the Buddy window, which is especially useful for AIM Tunes and the
integrated streaming XM Radio. The TXT Message mode was far more
stable, functioning well regardless of OS. download
